The World's Best Consignment Store

How to Consign

The Consignment Period Details.

1.  The Stork Exchange accepts name brand, gently worn children’s clothing, newborn through size 18. Maternity, baby equipment, nursery furniture and toys are also taken on consignment.

2.  The CLOTHING consignment period is 90 days.  Clothing will sell at full price for 30 days.  It will then be automatically discounted 20% and 40% each 30 day period.  Consignors receive 50% of the selling price.  Prices are determined by The Stork Exchange and are approximately 35-50% of the original sales price.

3.  The TOYS, EQUIPMENT and FURNITURE consignment period is 60 days.  Items will sell at full price for 20 days.  They will then be automatically discounted 10% and 20% each 20 day period.  Consignors receive 50% of the selling price.  Prices are determined by The Stork Exchange and are approximately 50% of original sales prices, based on age and condition.

4.  There is a semi-annual consigning fee of $3.95 ( January - June and July - December ) and a forty-five cent per item stocking fee.  Fees will be deducted from your account at time of consignment.  If you would like unsold items back, you may take them off the sales floor during the last 14 days of your consignment period.  All unsold items, after the consignment period, become the property of The Stork Exchange and may be donated, sold or discarded.  Only in very rare cases may items be taken back before the full consignment period is up (except for the 14 day grace period preceeding the end of the consignment period).

5.  Funds are available 3 days after an item has been sold & posted.  Amounts up to $50.00 will be paid by cash in the store.  Balances over $50.00 will be paid by check.  Checks will be issued on demand ( by the owner of the store ), or mailed within 5 days.  Automatic monthly checks may be requested and are mailed by the 7th of each month, for those accounts with a minimum $50.00 balance.  Account balances may also be used as store credit.

6.  Although all possible care will be taken of your merchandise, The Stork Exchange is not responsible for theft or damage.

The Stork Exchange has a "Drop & Run" system.

Because of the large volume that we process, we are unable to check clothing as you bring it in.  We have provided a very concise "clothing tip sheet" which details season changes and drop-off dates.  Once you have separated your seasons and freshly laundered the current season's clothing, please fold and place items in a plastic bin or sturdy box with a lid.  We ask that you do not use the "super-sized" storage bins or boxes as we must carry these up and down the stairs.  Then just drop your bin at the store during regular business hours and you are done!  No hassles, appointments or waiting around!

We will have an estimated process time posted on the "consignor update board" which will give you some idea of when your container will be done.  If you have under 6 items of clothing, they do not need to be boxed.  We will try and check them while you wait.  Occasionally, we will have to box even this small amount if the store is very busy at that time.  Only very dressy maternity needs to be on hangers, the majority can be neatly folded and boxed.  If you have puzzles, books, rattles or other small toys, please box or contain those items also.  We are not always able to check toys completely while you wait.

Clothing must be freshly laundered.

We cannot process a box if it has not been freshly laundered.  We recommend checking clothing at your home, under bright lighting.  Eliminate items that are outdated, stained, have holes, buttons missing or are excessively worn.  Launder only the items that meet our specifications.  We would like to remind you also that our staff is trained to assess the resale value of items and will often see things that you would not see at your house.  The lighting in the store is very different than in your home and we are sincerely not trying to embarrass or offend anyone when we say "no thank you" to certain items.

We are simply trying to provide the best quality resale for our customers.  The Stork Exchange actually sells 85% of items taken for sale, well above industry averages.  The majority of our consignors also shop at The Stork Exchange so we know that you do appreciate our selectiveness.

Are you a Donate or a Return?

When you drop off your bins, we will ask if you are a donate or a return.  When we process your bins, if you are a return, we will put the items we are not accepting for sale back in your bin and you can pick them up.  If you are a donate, we will simply donate those items that we do not consider to be sellable.  Please be sure that you want to be a donate as we will not be making follow up calls for bins containing large amounts of unsellable items.  Once we have taken items for sale, they will be on the sales floor for 60-90 days, depending on their specific consignment period.  If you do not claim your unsold items before their consignment period is up, all unsold items become the property of The Stork Exchange.  Please see guideline #4 above for further information and clarification

Toys, Equipment and Furniture must be Clean & Current.

Current means for the most part within a 5-year manufacture date.  There are some exceptions to this guideline, (cribs, carseats, wooden high chairs, eg.), so we recommend that you call first before bringing "older" items down.  All items must be clean, have all parts and meet current safety regulations.  Please take the time to wipe down all toys, wash covers on equipment and bring all parts & pieces at the time of consignment.  We simply do not have time to clean your items and will return them if they are not ready for the sales floor.  The Stork Exchange puts out almost 300 new items a day and therefore we appreciate your cooperation in this area.  We do check for recalls and, in the case of a recalled item, require that the safety retrofit be installed prior to being accepted for sale.

Cribs must be within a 10-year manufacture date.  Infant car seats must be within a 3-year date.  Convertible and booster car seats can be within a 4-year manufacture dateAll car seats must have the owners instruction manual with it.  Toys and equipment must have working batteries if needed.  We are primarily looking for toys in the newborn to age 3 range.  There are some exceptions...just ask!  We do not take Barbies, stuffed animals, matchbox cars, dolls, board games, toys for older kids, bike seats & bike trailers.
